OBEY THE WORDS OF JESUS CHRIST
(Lev 19:37 KJV) 
Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments,
 and do them:
 I am the LORD.

(John 13:17 KJV) 
If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

THE ESSENTIALS OF JESUS' PRESENTATION OF THE GOSPEL

1) REPENT (TURN AWAY FROM SIN AND WICKED BEHAVIOR)
2) FOLLOW ME (JESUS)
3) COUNT THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
4) BECOME A DISCIPLE OF JESUS
5) BELIEVE ON JESUS CHRIST (ENTRUST YOUR SPIRITUAL WELL BEING TO HIM)
*6) OBEY MY WORDS (OF JESUS CHRIST).
7) YOU MUST BE SPIRITUALLY  REBORN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

OBEDIENCE IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE:
Comes from the heart...

(Rom 6:17-19 KJV) 
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin,
 but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
{18} Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
 {19} I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh:
for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity;
 even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

Obedience benefits from testing...

It is good for me that I have been afflicted;
that I might learn thy statutes.

 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;
 {13} That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity,

 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous:
nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness
unto them which are exercised thereby.

 My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
{6} For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
{7} If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Obedience Is aided by the Holy Spirit....

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit
 unto unfeigned love of the brethren,
see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
 {23} Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you;
 and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
{20} That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them:
 and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
{21} But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations,
 I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.

Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me:
 they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them,
 which if a man do, he shall even live in them;
they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them,
 to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people,
and they hear thy words, but they will not do them:
for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
{32} And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice,
and can play well on an instrument:
for they hear thy words, but they do them not.

 and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
